Cheaper Price Tag

Reams of paper, hours of labor and barrels of ink are typically needed for large retailers' in-store pricing and promotions. Altierre Corp., armed with $22 million in Series C funding, aims to change that with its electronic price displays.

Altierre, incorporated in 2003, has developed a system that replaces the paper price displays on the edges of store shelves with electronic displays that are wirelessly linked to an in-store computer. The displays can show not only product prices but also promotions such as two-for-one deals. Prices and promotions can easily be changed at any time.

The San Jose, Calif., company is initially targeting the grocery market and plans to expand its client list to apparel and other retailers. Its new funding was led by Galleon Group and will help Altierre manufacture its systems and begin distributing them to retailers this year.
